Project: Challenge and Solution Statement

Challenge

How to develop a computer based mobile Rosary application that has features that link biblical text to the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

Solution

  • Research and document the Catholic Church’s doctoral basis for use of the rosary as an approved form of prayer.

  • Associate each bead of the rosary to its historical biblical text and Catechism of the Catholic Church references.

  • Design a stand alone device application that will permit the user to smoothly maneuver through the hand held device without lose of position in the rosary decade sequence or connectivity with persons the rosary is being shared.

  • Develop a shared interface capability that will permit multiple users to have concurrent access and use of the hand held rosary prayer device.

  • Document and demonstrate the technical design connections and archive references that were used in development of the portable rosary device.

  • Prepare instructions that will explain to users how to operate the portable rosary prayer device.

  • Invite users to test and evaluate the held rosary prayer device.

"Computing presents a particular case for understanding the role of technology in moral responsibility. As these technologies become a more integral part of daily activities, automate more decision-making processes and continue to transform the way people communicate and relate to each other, they further complicate the already problematic tasks of attributing moral responsibility."

Norman, "Computing and Moral Responsibility", Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
